Scholarships

General Information:

All interested 2008 high school graduates who are: students of Japanese ancestry, students who are members, or students whose parents are members of the Sonoma County JACL, who are planning to attend a university, college or vocations/technical school can apply for the six JACL scholarships listed below. Scholarship applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2008. Please mail all scholarship application materials to:

Scholarship Information:

Frank Oda Memorial Scholarship - $1,000

Frank Oda was three times Sonoma County JACL president and recipient of the National JACLer of the Biennium Award in 1972. Frank gave unstintingly of himself to JACL and the community.

Applicants must be members or have parents who are members of the Sonoma County JACL.

Sonoma County JACL Student Grant - $500

  • This grant will be awarded to a qualified applicant who is a member of Japanese ancestry and who demonstrates financial need in pursuing his or her education.

Sonoma County JACL Memorial Scholarship - $1,000

  • Applicants must be members or have parents who are members of the Sonoma County JACL.

Petaluma Japanese Sunday School Scholarships (3) - $500 ea.

  • One scholarship will be awarded to a qualifying applicant who is of Japanese ancestry residing in and attending high school in the Rohnert Park/Cotati or Petaluma High School District.

  • Each of the remaining two scholarships are open to any qualifying applicant of Japanese ancestry residing in Sonoma County.
